i strongly believe that it will. i have one long haired cat and nothing worked. all the other brushes were a joke. it's not to say that this goes through mats literally like butter, but for a cat brush it's metaphorically like butter. this has a bunch of sharp edges that slice through the knots and mats without cutting the cat. this is way beyond any other brush because it's not a brush. it is great.

Just be very gentle. Use it as though you were petting your cat. You may be hurting it unintentionally by going hard. My cat loves it.

I have found it does do a good job. By if your cat has mats be careful not to pull to hard.
