Hi, the back pocket has zipper, you could close it.

This beach please bag has a very large back pocket, it is with zipper closure.

No problem to wear on shoulder.

Q: Is this bag sturdy? It won't tear at the seams in a couple of months will it?

I don't use it as an everyday bag. But used it a lot over the summer to go to the beach. I feel it is sturdy & good quality.
